The Worst Home Invasion Movie Ever

Nicolas Cage in Trespass. I bet he handpicked that outfit.

Nicolas Cage in Trespass. I bet he handpicked that outfit.

Ever since I heard about Nicolas Cage’s real life home invasion (he woke up in the middle of the night to find a naked man in a leather jacket holding a Fudgsicle standing in his bedroom), I’ve wanted to see Trespass. In fact, I was shocked that this anecdote that he dropped at TIFF, while promoting the movie, was the first I’d heard about it. I mean jesus christ, it combines two of my favorite things of all time. Nicolas Cage and home invasion movies. How had Trespass slipped under my radar?

And then how did it just show up on Netflix instant watch with zero fanfare? I thought my Facebook news feed was full of Cage devotees but I didn’t hear BOO about Trespass until a friend told me about it in person, the old fashioned way. I was like, “No WAY this thing is on Netflix and I didn’t know about it.” But it was, and I watched it last night and it was so disappointing that I decided to blog for the first time in months. More Evidence of Nicolas Cage’s Madness

Nicolas Cage on the Late ShowEver since seeing Nicolas Cage flap around in that long duster and weirdo hat he sports in the trailer and posters for The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, I knew that now existed yet another movie in the Canon of Cage that I would have to see. He’s ramped up his interviews and promotions for it this past week, and given us just so much new material to love about him. For example, his belief that him and the spirit of inventor/electrical madman Nikola Tesla are intrinsically linked, and talking about doing shrooms with his cat, Louis, on the Late Show. He also talks about how his cat talked to him.

Now, you know what. This isn’t the first nutso story I’ve heard about Nicolas Cage and a cat. On the Audio Commentary for the completely fantastic movie, Vampire’s Kiss, Cage talks about how shooting the movie was kind of an ordeal – and how him and his cat destroyed his hotel room together. Kick-AssThat’s right. We want to officially start that rumor.

Likely by now, you’ve seen at least one incarnation of the trailer for Kick-Ass, the action comedy from director Matthew Vaughn (”Layer Cake”) about a teenager with zero super powers, who decides to become a superhero. What most trailers aren’t showing, however, are Nicolas Cage’s character. Cage plays an ex-cop who trains his daughter to take up the role of a lethal vigilante. Check out the clip, which debuted at Comic Con, after the jump. (more…)

‘Season of the Witch’ Trailer & Synopsis

Oh my god!

Oh my god!

I sure do love it when a new Nicolas Cage movie comes out – sincerely – and I was pleasantly surprised tonight to find that IGN had posted a teaser of an upcoming Cage release, Season of the Witch. (Which has nothing to do with Halloween, but so much to do with Nic Cage on a horse.) Thinking the name seemed familiar, I delved back into my computer’s archives and realized I had actually read this script, written by Bragi Schut, and done coverage on it over three goddamn years ago. The movie is set in the 14th century, where a group of men led by a knight of dubious faith must transport the witch seemingly responsible for the Black Plague. The movie’s due out March 19, 2010 from Lionsgate. Check the trailer. (more…)
