Sir Alfred Hitchcock, 1899-1980

In the fall of 1973, Alfred Hitchcock sat down with Tom Snyder on the Tomorrow Show and gave a rare, one-hour length interview. In the years since the interview, the footage (according to the clip’s description), was widely thought to be lost or destroyed. But instead, “the VHS (SP) tape itself was found to be in excellent condition. While properly stored in a climate controlled environment it apparrently had not been played in decades. Great care has been taken to make the digital transfer.”

The interview reminds us of the personality behind Hitchcock (reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock Presents…), instead of “just” the director of classics like Psycho. It begins with his answering a question of what terrifies him, “”Most things. I’m scared of policemen. I never drive a car, on the theory that if you don’t drive a car you can’t get a ticket….” (more…)
