Joe Dante Screens “The Hole”, Gives Distribution Update

Saturday, August 11th, 2012

Last night, Joe Dante screened in-person his long shelved 3-D project from 2009, The Hole, at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago. (In 2-D.) He also confirmed one key rumor: The Hole will finally be getting a VOD release this September. And for those living in Atlanta, they’ll be able to see the film in theaters that month as well.

Check out the trailer after the jump. After seeing it, I don’t know that I exactly agree with how they positioned this trailer (which is, of course, years old) from a marketing standpoint. It didn’t really feel like a “3-D thrillride”, but then again I was watching in 2-D. It felt a little more horror (safe, like a Goosebumps book, but horror still) than action. Also keep in mind that this is, in Joe’s own words, a “psuedo family horror film.” (more…)

Trailer for “Red Lights,” Starring Cillian Murphy, Elizabeth Olsen, and Bobby D

Thursday, June 7th, 2012

Out July 13, 2012

Out July 13, 2012

In a summer of over-the-top-Blockbusters-I-can’t-wait-for, the trailer for Red Lights was a neat surprise of a different sort of movie to look forward to in July. The movie stars Cillian Murphy, Elizabeth Olsen, Sigourney Weaver, and Robert DeNiro. Four actors all with a proven track record of being able to pull some serious intensity when given the right atmosphere. Because Red Lights is directed by Rodrigo Cortes, there should be no shortage of tense situations for Cillian and Elizabeth to deal with through panicked, dreamy, slightly creepy, and emotive blue eyes. (Remember the Ryan Reynolds stuck in a box for 80 minutes movie, Buried? That was Rodrigo Cortes.)

The movie is billed as a “paranormal thriller,” which could be a topic that turns people off, but the trailer seems promising and a welcome departure from paranormal/house/hauntings. A different spin on the topic. (more…)

Insanity Can Be Contagious: Trailer for “Dark Feed”

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

Dark Feed PosterIn our October ‘11 issue of SCARS, Boston-based filmmakers, Michael and Shawn Rasmussen “spilled their guts” about their experiences as writers of John Carpenter’s The Ward and as writers, directors, and general indie filmmaking conquistadors for their latest project, Dark Feed.

Even fiendish horror fan minds can appreciate  a happy ending, especially when these stories get at the roots of something else we love: independent horror. So we’re psyched to share that the Rasmussens have announced Dark Feed is finished and is currently being represented by Ronna Wallace at Eastgate Pictures. (Wallace is best-known for selling Open Waters and producing Reservoir Dogs.) And – we’ve got a trailer. (more…)

“The Loved Ones” Trailer and Other Obsessive Love Movies

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012

The Loved Ones - Release Date 07/01/2012Along with an official trailer for The Loved Ones comes an official release date: June 1st, limited. Admittedly, until the trailer today, I hadn’t heard boo about this Australian-made movie. But now that I’ve watched, I’m downright excited. Namely because the movie depicts one of my favorite horror sub genres of all time: the “I love you so much I have to tie you up and keep you forever and ever” sub genre. Let’s call them Loved To Death movies.

First, take a look at The Loved Ones trailer. (more…)

“The Thing” Trailer Emerges!

Friday, July 15th, 2011

The ThingAfter what seems like forever, The Thing remake trailer has officially made its way to the internet.  I think I’m on the fence about this simply because I love the Carpenter film so much; I just think there is no reason to see a group of Norwegians go through the same “Thing” as MacReady’s crew….but after seeing the trailer it seems as though Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. is keeping the faith right down to the Dean Cundey framing and lighting. I’m just hoping for this not to suck.  If I can sit through it without getting mad I will give it my stamp of approval.

Top 5 SCARS Anticipated Hollywood Films Of 2011

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

Girl-With-the-Dragon-Tattoo-2I have to say I have not been excited about this year in movies. In 2005 I was a KONG geek and actually got to see the premiere in NYC, so everything else has had a weak impact on me…

I’ll run down my list of movies that have made me somewhat itchy but only one has me to the point of utter giddiness. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

DaggerVision’s Caustic Zombies

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

Dormont, PA, July 22, 2011- Independent horror film director Johnny Daggers,
debuts his first full-length feature film, “Caustic Zombies” at the Hollywood
Theater. This premiere will mark the beginning of an era for the native Pittsburgh
film company, DaggerVision Films.
“Pittsburgh is rich in horror history, and to be kicking off the release of ‘Caustic
Zombies’ at the Hollywood Theater is quite an honor,” says director Johnny
Daggers. “I am excited to help Pittsburgh carry on yet another generation of
horror movies. I can only aspire to make an impact on the genre as powerful as
my predecessors.”
DaggerVision Films, which made its start in May 2010, has proven to be one
of the most well-received independent horror film companies in Pittsburgh.
Recently they were featured in Rabid and Xploited magazines, as well as being
mentioned in the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. This latest recognition solidifies
their posterity like so many other filmmakers have done in the past.
“When I write my scripts, I am essentially writing about myself, and how I would
react when things went down. People can expect “Caustic Zombies” to have a
lot of gore, but also a lot of sarcastic humor.”
For showings or ticket information, please visit www.daggervisionfilms.com
and www.causticzombies.com. Or for theater information please contact The
Hollywood Theater located at 1449 Potamac Avenue in Dormont, via phone at
412-563-0368 or you can visit their website, www.thehollywooddormont.org.

Caustic-ZombiesOk, I get press releases all the time and this one jumped out at me because of this statement “DaggerVision Films, which is owned and operated by the amazing Johnny Daggers”.  So of course I need proof of the Amazing Johnny Daggers.  Caustic Zombies is his full length feature and maybe if I’m good I’ll get a screener to see how AMAZING Johnny is. :-)

So jump down and read the press release and watch the Trailer!

Zone Of The Dead, Sorry We Missed You!

Monday, July 4th, 2011

zoneofdeadThis one slipped right by me. We love Kristina Klebe and Ken Foree, so how could this have happened? I’ll blame it on old age or my kids. I was trolling Youtube and shambled upon this if you will. It will be my quest to seek this sucker out because it’s a Serbian film that doesn’t involve a baby and well it has zombies…
