One of the TV shows in my rotation is Top Chef. Normally I have no occasion to mention it here, but last week’s episode has luckily opened the door. In a strange, yet neat, turn of cross promotion, Charlize Theron was the episode’s guest judge, in anticipation for her role as the Evil Queen in Snow White and the Huntsman. (Which doesn’t open til, like, June, but that’s neither here nor there.) This led to a challenge where each chef had to create an “evil” course fit for a queen to serve Charlize and the judges. It was easily the best episode so far of Top Chef Texas, and the dishes were pretty gnarly. Gallery of creepy food after the jump! (more…)

 Picture Justin Bieber here.
Apparently an ANONYMOUS SOURCE who has been working close to Justin Bieber slipped this to Movieweb: Justin Bieber would like to model his career after Mark Wahlberg’s. And he thinks the best way to do this would be to star in a remake of 1996’s Fear. Like most people, Fear is one of my favorite guilty pleasures of all time, so the idea of a remake to me is abhorrent. But then the article said this. (more…)

If you’re like me, you have a DVD collection that sits around collecting dust (I literally have killed spiders the last two times I’ve unzipped my DVD binders), because you’re too busy streaming movies or Redboxing to be bothered with what you already own. If you’re also like me, you’re in a region that’s in the process of — or soon will be — getting snow dumped on it. Avoid cabin fever by hitting the Redbox before you get home today or getting your Netflix queue ready with some of these titles. (more…)

Today marks the 64th birthday of one master of horror, John Carpenter! As we reflect on all that John has given us over the years, here are three scenes that represent a look at Carpenter at his most iconic (Halloween), one of his most underrated (In the Mouth of Madness), and his recent return to the genre (2010’s The Ward).

Happy Friday the 13th! The hockey mask of Jason Voorhees is one of those few symbols that I think you can show most people in America — kinda like KISS makeup, or Darth Vadar — and they would recognize what they were looking at. In celebration of his birthday, here are some of my favorite pieces of absurd art and merchandise that have came out of the F13 craze. Make sure to click on the images to get the full size crazy behind some of these thumbnails. (more…)

 Screening October 27, at 7:30PM
David Dvorchak tracked down this 16mm print of “Night of the Living Dead” just in time for Halloween. Dvorchak has taken care restoring the aged reel to bring it to the community next Thursday, October 27, at 7:30pm at the Knight Memorial Library (275 Elmwood Avenue, Providence RI 02905). It’s rare, it’s the perfect trick-or-treat, and it’s just the sort of D.I.Y. creepy vision that we love to see in Rhode Island.
The Phoenix recently ran an article detailing Dvorchak’s quest for the film (which began after finding out that the Rhode Island Library Film Cooperative had once owned a copy). Check out the article here, as well as Dvorchak’s plans for future film series, or visit Providence Community Library for more information.

It’s probably one of the creepiest Facebook apps ever, and it taps into the paranoia that most of us have (or should have, when you stop and think about it), about what we post online. Today a website (www.takethislollipop.com) launched that requests permission to access your Facebook. When you grant it permission you get a video of a sweating, leering tweaker in front of a computer. And he’s looking at your Facebook page. And next thing you know, he’s google mapping directions to your house. (more…)
