When Fuse’s Mistress Juliya broke on her Twitter early this morning that Peter Steele was dead, due to heart failure, the knee jerk reaction from fans could only be one thing: we’ve heard this before. By now, however, after confirmations from bandmates, Type O Negative’s label, and fans, it seems to be true that everything dies. Even Peter Steele. (more…)

Melissa Auf Der Maur tamed the demon within Glenn Danzig long enough to get him to duet with her on her new ablum, Out Of Our Minds, released on March 30. The song, “Father’s Grave,” is posted after the jump and is every bit what you’d expect. In an interview with Noisecreep, MadM let her inner fangirl out full force when discussing recording the track back in 2008: “My lucky sweatband that I wore throughout most of Hole was a Danzig patch sweatband, and I used to live in Los Angeles not too far from Danzig’s home and drive by in my 1967 Cougar and would whisper [adopts girlie pleading voice], ‘Please be my friend,’” she chuckles. “I wanted so bad to have Danzig in my life.” She also praises the honor of being the only artist to get a duet with Danzig in his entire career. Check out the results. (more…)

A big part of the reason SCARS has the moniker “The Magazine That Leaves Marks” rather than “Horror That Leaves Marks” is because it gives us free license to cover all different transgressive parts of culture that we like. For example, we can report on the fact that the only surviving band of the original trinity of British punk, Buzzcocks, have decided to launch a massive US tour. At their age! (more…)

The Murderdolls sometimes seem like such a sweet distant memory. However, where there’s a horror movie there’s a song, and Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison has revealed to U.K. Kerrang, that he and Wednesday 13 will be re-uniting this year to record a new Murderdolls album, Women and Children Last – the first Murderdolls album in eight years.
Reunions have been murmured about before, and in the interview, Jordison talked about why they decided now would be the ideal time to record again: “It’s been an ongoing conversation between Wednesday and I from 2006 until now. We were bored with everything out there, and thought we had something to piss people off and shake things up. Everything is such a product or a fucking formula these days… Fuck formula! Fuck the norm!” (more…)

 Lux Interior: October 21, 1946 - February 4, 2009
On February 4, 2009, garage icon and founder/vocalist, Lux Interior, of The Cramps was declared dead in Glendale, California. The big bad bone daddy of rock n’ roll was taken from us too soon, and his loss was later diminished in the shuffle of celebrity tragedies which followed throughout the year. The band played their final show in 2006, and I was lucky enough to be at one of their last shows on October 30, 2006 at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. Even though his life ended at 62, anyone who saw Lux in that last tour could see the life he still had in him. A year later, the notion that there’s no new Cramps music, no Cramps tours, and no spoken gems of crazed brilliance from Lux still saddens me. (more…)

 Araya and Mustaine
First of all, let me clarify that headline. This summer, for the first time in history, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax will all be part of the same tour, in one of the greatest line ups metal fans could hope for. The dates announced so far are for June 16 and June 19, 2010.
And they’re in Poland and the Czech Republic.
Read on if you’re not too heartbroken. The press release includes quotes from Kerry King, Scott Ian, Lars Ulrich, and Dave Mustaine. Will Megadeth’s inclusion on the tour be the vindication Mustaine has so long sought? Or will he suffer a nervous breakdown? Time will tell. Read the full story.

The bassist of Danzig and Samhain, the original and unofficial photographer for the Misfits – Eerie Von has seen a lot. Lucky for us, he has the photos to back up his journeys through the annals of punk and metal, and they’ve now been published in Eerie’s new book Misery Obscura, released yesterday through Dark Horse. His photos span from 1981-2006, and are supplemented with plenty of road warrior stories. With so much speculation on a band like the Misfits – thinking of what they are today, compared to the good ol’ days – Misery Obscura is pretty much the perfect visual supplement to document what made the Misfits legendary. In the early 90’s, Norway experienced the sort of antics middle-America feared for years, but never actually experienced – a bunch of long haired youth, dressed in black, branding face paint, guitars and the power of metal, burned churches to the ground. With a violence that transcended arson, band members committed suicide and murder. They were the boogeymen personified. But what motivated them and their music? Who were the actual people involved? In Until the Light Takes Us, filmmakers Aaron Aites and Audrey Ewell packed up their lives and moved to Norway to find the truth behind the scene. How they present their findings is the polarizer of enjoyment to their documentary. (more…)
