The Divide, in theaters January 13, 2011

New year, new contests! To celebrate the opening of Anchor Bay Entertainment’s The Divide, starring Michael Biehn, Lauren German, Milo Ventimiglia, and Rosanna Arquette, and directed by the formidably twisted Xavier Gens (Frontier(s)), we’re giving you an opportunity to win a DVD prize pack of horror DVDs from the Anchor Bay catalog featuring the stars of The Divide (titles including the likes of Hatchet, I Spit On Your Grave, and Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer).

The Divide is out in select theaters Friday, January 13 (see showtimes), and if you’re a local SCARS reader, you’ll have your chance to see the claustrophobic story of survivors trapped in an apartment building after a nuclear blast at one of our favorite theaters, Coolidge Corner, uncut and unrated. (See more information about the Coolidge screenings after the jump.)

Not lucky enough to live in one of the theatrical regions screening The Divide? Then now’s the perfect time to win a pack of horror movies to tide you over. CLICK HERE to enter!

Top 3 Romantic Killing Spree Movies

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

poster_kalifornia-pittSo I was listening to Bruce Springsteen’s “Nebraska” (one of the best songs ever written), and I got to thinking.  What were my favorite romantic slaughter fests?  I really didn’t have to think all that hard. Nothing is more fascinating than two homicidal people whose hormones are raging deciding to have sex and take some innocent people out along the way.

Enjoy the trailers after the jump.

Know Your Creature Features, Win A Mask!

Win the ItsyBitsyBiter Mask

Win the ItsyBitsyBiter Mask

Just because Christmas is over, doesn’t mean we’ve lost the spirit of giving. “Monster” Matt Patterson wants to give you one of his custom monster masks, and all you have to do is answer a few simple questions.

Up for grabs is Monster Matt’s “ItsyBitsyBiter” mask. The mask is sculpted in WED clay, with no under structure, and molded with hydrocal (gypsum stone). Finishing off the mask is a cast of latex rubber, with color hand painted in acrylic inks.

Here’s some backstory-
I originally sketched this ugly two years ago.Last year,it almost got used in a low budget film, but that project got postponed.
I got around to making it a mask this year, and came up with the name after the childrens rhyme”The Itsy Bitsy Spider”.I thought of that or “Little Miss Muffet”.
It’s sculpted in WED clay.No under structure(armature).Molded with hydrocal(gypsum stone).Cast in latex rubber.Hand painted ,with acryllic inks.
I prefer the inks and hand painting ,because I let the inks flow into the various planes and crevices on the mask.Letting the inks do the work for me. it makes combinations that maybe wouldn’t happen with airbrushing.
There’s influences in the design ,from various sc-fi and horror films.

Answer the Creature Feature Trivia after the jump. Send an e-mail to scars.contests@gmail.com, subject line “Monster Mask,” with your answers and chance to win! Deadline January 14, 2010. (more…)
