Film Review: “The Divide”

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

The DivideYou know when you hear about the theme of a movie and you get all excited for it? Then the director is announced for the project and it makes it that much better, then the actors begin to attach to it and it becomes one of your “must see” movies of the coming season?

That was “The Divide” for me. (more…)

Rock and Shock: The Day My Love Died.

Friday, October 29th, 2010

Rock and Shock 2010I took a few days off between the events detailed in this blog and the time I decided to sit down and write about it. It took me 5 days to try and turn a string of insults, vulgarities, and disgust into something somewhat appropriate and cohesive. Have you ever loved someone so much they become a major part of your life? Everyday that love comes into your mind in one way or another.

Well mine is Horror. I love her. I have loved her from the first time I laid eyes on her. I was scared to commit at first; I was hurt before by Comedy, and her sobby bitch of a sister, Drama. (more…)

‘Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil’ Review

Sunday, October 10th, 2010

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil PosterDirected by Eli Craig
Starring: Tyler Labine, Alan Tudyk, Katrina Bowden

I heard about this movie about 5-6 months ago and decided right then and there that I needed to see it ASAP. And I got the chance last week at J. Cannibal’s TerrorThon here in Boston. They worked directly with the producers to acquire a copy of the yet-to-be-distributed film for the festival. A simple overview of the storyline is all you need: Two Hillbillies (Labine and Tudyk) are accused of being killers by college kids camping near the duo’s cabin.

Simple enough. But doesn’t really draw you in on that, right? Well, the catch of it is the old “Three’s Company” routine. Remember when Jack and Chrissy were in the bathroom hanging the shower curtain in the tub, and Mr. Furley was outside the door listening. And all he heard was Chrissy saying “Get it up,” and Jack saying “I’m trying, but I just don’t think it is going to fit.” And Mr Furley was thinking that Jack and Chrissy were getting all down in it. Well “Tucker & Dale” is an ENTIRE movie of those kinds of misunderstanding and trust me, it NEVER got old. (more…)

Bitter Broken Brain Reviews ‘Nightmare House Vol. 1′

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

Fewdio's Nightmare House Vol. 1There ARE still scares out there. I repeat… there ARE still scares out there. And they are not coming from where you think they are.

You, the jaded horror fan, YES you. I am talking to you. The one who is convinced that you have seen it all. And YOU the one who turns up his nose at all of the studios and their remakes. And HEY- I’m not forgetting you- person who dismisses all direct to video horror as, “Well, if it wasn’t good enough for the theaters, then who cares about it.” I say this to you as I am one of you. And I very, very rarely get freaked. Most of my enjoyment at this stage of the game comes from introducing movies to my unknowing friends and living through THEIR fear and scares the same way I used to. (more…)

Bitter Broken Brain: ‘Madman’ & The Noon Aid Incident

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

n1020399590_364824_5519903(Missed Part 1? Read it now.) So with the “Exploding Head Movie” incident (as it became known in our house) behind us, my family became over-observant of what I was watching. Which mean the same thing it means to any obsesssed 10 year old: I had to get better at hiding what I was getting my hands on. (more…)

n1020399590_364824_5519903“My name is Tony.”

“Hi Tony.”

“And I am a horror addict.”

A few random laughs of disbelief flutter through the crowd.

Oh I know I don’t look the part. I mean, look at me. I’m 40, I’m married, I own my own house, I work at a customer service help desk during the day and have 2 dogs named Lilly and Cooper. (Because he is a Minature Pincher- get it-Minature Cooper…Mini Cooper?…Nevermind). Let me go back to the beginning. (more…)
