“The Loved Ones” Trailer and Other Obsessive Love Movies

The Loved Ones - Release Date 07/01/2012Along with an official trailer for The Loved Ones comes an official release date: June 1st, limited. Admittedly, until the trailer today, I hadn’t heard boo about this Australian-made movie. But now that I’ve watched, I’m downright excited. Namely because the movie depicts one of my favorite horror sub genres of all time: the “I love you so much I have to tie you up and keep you forever and ever” sub genre. Let’s call them Loved To Death movies.

First, take a look at The Loved Ones trailer.

There is no doubt in my mind after watching that trailer (who cares if it shows the whole movie? we all know where this is going), that I will immensely enjoy this. I watch it and I think of:

  • Misery
  • P2
  • The Woman
  • Otis
  • May
  • The Roommate
  • High Tension

I think of people who just don’t know how to show how much they care!

P2

It’s like the best part of HBO’s True Blood. Imagine if instead of fairies and all the other ridiculous B.S. that show brings in, they did an entire show around Franklin Mott and Tara. Remember when he kidnapped Tara, but didn’t know how to feed her so tried to make her EAT FLOWERS? Hey Tara! Watch how fast I can text motherfucker!

The Best Plotline in True Blood History

The trailer also implies that The Loved Ones uses another favorite staple character of mine: the crazy father. Favorite nutty family patriarchs of mine include the likes of Leland Palmer and the dad from People Under the Stairs. (Who is also in Twin Peaks, which I think means that “crazy father” certainly has a casting type.)

Watch Leland be driven to dance from grief, psychosis, and all consuming fatherly love:

Anyway, I don’t think The Loved Ones is for everyone. But if you’re a fan of the listed movies above, I think you “get it.”
