Time after time, season after season, Boston’s midnite movie host, undertaker and showman, J. Cannibal, raises the bar for himself. From September 24 – October 2, he and Garen Daly (Boston Sci Fi Film Festival producer) go 9 steps beyond the normally exquisite Feast of Flesh showings we’ve all come to love at the Coolidge, with a 9 day long horror festival: TerrorThon, at the Somerville Theater, 55 Davis Square.
TerrorThon highlights include premieres of Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, The Hoarde, Revenant and kick-off night’s opening double feature The Godfather of Gore - the U.S. premiere of the documentary on Herschell Gordon Lewis, and Lewis’ most famous film, Blood Feast. Goddamn Blood Feast in the theater. Director Frank Hennenlotter (Basket Case, Bad Biology) will be on hand for audience Q&A. Screenings of cult hits The Human Centipede, Dead Snow, and a Feast of Flesh screening of Night of the Creeps round out the showcase, along with plenty of local films.
Day 2 of TerrorThon, September 25, has the sort of multi-dimensional, circus antics we’d expect from a J. Cannibal event that’s collaborating with Something Weird Video: Spookadelica.
Spookadelica promises:
- HEAR the voice of an actual DEMON as it is EXORCISED before your very eyes!
- WITNESS a real live Satanic Ritual IN PERSON!
- SEE the World’s Most Talented ZOMBIE win hearts,minds and of course, BRAAAAAAAAAAAINNNNNNSS!
- WIN a chance to go home with an ACTUAL DEAD BODY!
Honestly, if you are anywhere within a reasonable drive’s distance, check out some of these events. For non-locals, Davis Sq. and the Somerville theater are right across from the Red line’s Davis. Square stop, and there’s a good sized public lot that runs on meters (ie: it’ll be free by nighttime) up the street. So don’t be scared of Boston. Come on out.
