First, a few things said about Boyd Rice:
1) Boyd Rice was a black pimp.
2) Boyd Rice was my mentor.
3) Boyd Rice is an Iconoclast.
The speaker of each quote, respectively? Charles Manson, Marilyn Manson, and Anton LaVey.
Filmmaker Larry Wessel (Sex, Death, and the Hollywood Mystique) examines the life and music of Boyd Rice (aka NON) in his documentary Iconoclast, which gets its world premiere in Los Angeles, August 17. NON will also be performing a ultra-rare show in New York City this summer, July 22, at Le Poisson Rouge.
NON’s fingerprints are all over the genre, and arguably his influence has held great effect over bands like KMFDM, Skinny Puppy, and more industrial greats. In SCARS’ home turf of Providence, Rhode Island, a city which went on the map this decade for our noise scene, NON’s abrasive, “aural irritation” holds even more relevance and influence.
