More Evidence of Nicolas Cage’s Madness

Nicolas Cage on the Late ShowEver since seeing Nicolas Cage flap around in that long duster and weirdo hat he sports in the trailer and posters for The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, I knew that now existed yet another movie in the Canon of Cage that I would have to see. He’s ramped up his interviews and promotions for it this past week, and given us just so much new material to love about him. For example, his belief that him and the spirit of inventor/electrical madman Nikola Tesla are intrinsically linked, and talking about doing shrooms with his cat, Louis, on the Late Show. He also talks about how his cat talked to him.

Now, you know what. This isn’t the first nutso story I’ve heard about Nicolas Cage and a cat. On the Audio Commentary for the completely fantastic movie, Vampire’s Kiss, Cage talks about how shooting the movie was kind of an ordeal – and how him and his cat destroyed his hotel room together.

Furthermore, in his interview talking about him and Tesla, Cage also drops this nugget of info. When I watch Cage movies, I like to try to play the game of figuring out what was actually in the script, and what he just improvised because he felt, in some twisted way, it might “serve” the scene. Check this out:

“One of the more interesting things was that we wrapped the film on *Tesla’s) birthday,” he says. “I also found out, coincidentally, that the day he died was the same day I was born. I went to stay in his room at the New Yorker Hotel to try to see if I could call up the spirits, figuratively speaking, and see what came to me. Something hit the window, and I think it might have been a pigeon. I read a little about him and found out [that Tesla thought] they were his friends, and he cared about them. I decided to find a way to get a pigeon in the film and to fix his leg.

Read the rest of that interview here.

And watch Nicolas Cage talk about shrooms and his kitty.
