When I heard Danzig would be doing an appearance on Fox News’ show Red Eye tonight, I actually thought I was being messed with. But the segment just ended. And it’s true. Glenn Danzig was just on Fox News Channel in 2010. The segment started out with some clips from Danzig’s new video, and then we got to see Glenn himself – who did the interview from behind a pair of black shades. Host Greg Gutfield started out by complimenting Glenn on how great he looked. Glenn shrugged off the compliment, saying he wasn’t obsessed with the gym, he just works out when he can. He talked a little about his diet – that he hasn’t had pork in 30 years, etc. etc. Don’t worry – it gets better. Glenn had some things to say about Misfits t-shirts, an expanded tour and… the Obama administration.
Some stuff fans may be interested in from the interview:
- When asked about the title of the new album, Deth Red Sabaoth, Glenn explained it was spelled that way in homage to the original spelling – and pronunciation – of Sabbath.
- Glenn talked some about how his creative endeavors of the last six years have really been dictated by the fans. How he did The Lost Tracks of Danzig at the fans’ insistence, and that a big part of his new Danzig Lyric Book (illustrated by Simon Bisley) came out due to the fact that a lot of his lyrics have never been put in print, and fans wanted them. He talked a little about how this was due to money constraints when putting stuff out on vinyl, and the original inability to include lyric sheets back then.
- Regarding tour dates, Glenn went over the 9 announced dates (the five on the west coast, the four on the east coast), but said there will be a full tour in the fall. He also reiterated that he hates tour buses and not being able to do the stuff he wants to do, and he knows he disappoints his fans by not touring more. But that’s that.
The “sound clip” stuff:
Now that we’ve got all that factual stuff out of the way, here were the two best parts of the interview.
1) Greg asked Glenn about how most of his lyrics are horror oriented, or flat out about horror movies.
GREG: Would you ever do an album about puppies or rainbows?
DANZIG: Maybe one day I’ll do a real horror record and talk about the Obama administration
2) Greg couldn’t believe how much he still sees Misfits t-shirts around.
GREG: Why are there so many Misfits shirts? Please tell me you get a cut of this.
DANZIG: It depends on if its mine or the other guy from the Misfits. But I’d rather see them in that than a Journey or a Foreignor shirt. Wear a Danzig or a Misfits shirt and it’s all good to me.
Definitely a strange and surreal night to be a Danzig fan.
