Economic slow-down has made the Happiest Place On Earth make some unexpected moves. Today, comic book publisher Dan Vado, released details on his upcoming comic book series Disney pitched him to make on the Haunted Mansion. Vado (founder of SLG – Slave Labor Graphics – Publishing) explained all the prelimary material of the comics as being, “really strange.”
A press release today elaborated, saying the comics feature skeletons hanging from nooses, scattered corpses, and a ghostly poodle that says “crap.” All in a way, a pretty linear move for Disney’s descent into darkness, given last year’s Marvel acquisition, their ownership of video games like Stubbs the Zombie, and the total bummer that was their most memorable movie in years, Up.
So all that being said, of course zombies and comic books with corpses are cool to kids and teenagers (and me), but probably the smartest thing Disney’s done this month happened just yesterday, when they decided to resurrect CAPTAIN EO over at Disneyland in Cali. (Read about it.) Too bad it had to take the death of Michael Jackson to get them to realize, Captain EO is straight money.
