Valentine’s Day comes with a lot of baggage. Don’t be weighed down by the bitter people around you, or pressure to prove to your significant other how cool you think they are. No matter your situation, you can still spend all weekend watching your fav horror movies out of your collection, while still being festive. Here’s my recommendation for which 8 romantic horror movies can really round out your Valentine’s Day from a sap or sob fest to being bloody awesome.
1) Candyman
Love is at the heart of the Candyman’s slaughter, and his story delves so much deeper than some urban legend mythos about saying a guy’s name into a mirror. “Be my victim.” Yes, please.
2) Let the Right One In
A vampire/human love story between children, creepier and with more emotional depth than you could possibly imagine from that premise. Even if Eli seems like the alpha-female in the relationship, these two underdogs need each other equally. Which makes it the perfect love story.
3) King Kong
A classic so resonating that no matter how many times I watch it, I somehow wish the ending would change. Most horror-romance is fraught with pain, and this beauty and the beast tale is no different. Watch any version you fancy.
4) Cemetery Man
Classic and beautifully made-up Italian zombies meet satire, philosophy, obsession, undead reanimation, and one twisted love story.
5) My Bloody Valentine: 3D
This slick remake is good for couples where one of the parties doesn’t necessarily have the patience for older horror flicks. Watch it with a big box of chocolates between you.
6) The Signal
In a world where everyone’s gone murderously psychotic, we still get the real-life dramas that come along with love. Double-crossing. Chasing the one you love to earth’s end. Mix tapes. This movie goes far beyond the cookie-cutter trailer.
7) Bride of Frankenstein
A great recommendation for those feeling lonely this Valentine’s Day weekend. Reminds us that love is often mismatched, we’re likely to fall for people out of our league (she was a total babe, come on), and that in the end, everyone dies.
8 ) High Tension (Haute Tension)
So maybe you don’t have a boyfriend or girlfriend, but you have a friend you can invite over right? A friend you really, really love? A whole lot? Tense, gory, and fantastic.

King Kong is the epitome of love stories! Be it inter species, mythological creature love stories. I cry like a baby every time I watch 76 or Jackson’s KONG. The 33 version, although THE classic, just didn’t humanize the “Monster” enough to evoke tears from me.
I thought of Kong when I thought, “Hmm… What would Ray put on this list?” I agree with you about the ‘33 version.
Let the right one in is just amazing and needs to not be remade!!!!!!!
This topic was discussed on our way to The Wolfman last night.
My apartment-mates and I came up with a few more.
Dead-Alive – the story of a son trying to find love outside of his mother’s control
Return of the Living Dead 3 – Not even death can keep to lovers apart
Don’t Look Now – Mostly for really long 70’s sex scene
Heavenly Creatures – for those that love their best friend
May – teaches you that everyone has flaws, and ways to stich around them.
Near Dark – don’t get seduced by vampires. Especially if you’re a cowboy
Bride of Re-Animator – bringing back dead loved ones always seems like a good idea at the time.
The Vanishing – when the love of your life vanishes, you have to find out what happened to them. No matter what the cost.
Rev! Your 8 is even better than mine! I can’t believe I forgot two of my fav movies of all time, May and The Vanishing. I’m surprised you didn’t put May first, just to really stick it to me.
