On February 4, 2009, garage icon and founder/vocalist, Lux Interior, of The Cramps was declared dead in Glendale, California. The big bad bone daddy of rock n’ roll was taken from us too soon, and his loss was later diminished in the shuffle of celebrity tragedies which followed throughout the year. The band played their final show in 2006, and I was lucky enough to be at one of their last shows on October 30, 2006 at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. Even though his life ended at 62, anyone who saw Lux in that last tour could see the life he still had in him. A year later, the notion that there’s no new Cramps music, no Cramps tours, and no spoken gems of crazed brilliance from Lux still saddens me.
Celebrate Lux today by watching him in his leopard print, big sunglassed, glory.
