The Aquarian posted a great interview with Danzig last week. There’s a ton of new info for fans throughout the whole thing, but the part that probably stuck out the most was the suspicion from Danzig’s camp that Disney may have stolen some intellectual property.
“We have a thing with Disney; I think they stole one of my characters. Ge Rouge’s character, they put him in The Princess And The Frog. Someone told me about it and then I saw the commercials and then I saw a couple of posters on a bus, so we’re looking into it right now.”
Ge Rouge is of course a comic series put out by Danzig, set amidst a voodoo backdrop, which has long been discussed as a potential feature film. I can only assume that the character Danzig’s people are referring to from Princess and the Frog is Dr. Facilier, pictured above.
Admittedly, Disney has done their fair share of thievery throughout the years, and I’d love nothing more than to imagine a bunch of Disney executives flipping through Verotik comics and spinning Glenn, but somehow I doubt this was the case here.
While the character might have some similarities to Ge Rouge’s Papa John, the look is pretty generic and run-of-the-mill. If anyone should be crying “rip off,” it’s probably Vince McMahon.
Let’s hope no one convinces Danzig to actually follow this silly pursuit through, as it will most definitely end in embarrassment.
