Tinsel Town waited with anxiety this morning for the list of Golden Globe nominees. An inclusion in the Golden Globe roster generally can be a preclusion to one step closer to an Oscar, and a definite boon in your movie’s profits.
While genre TV like Dexter and True Blood were obvious no-brainers for inclusion, we’re happy to see that District 9 has been nominated for Best Screenplay and Inglorious Basterds for Best Drama, Best Screenplay and…. Best Director.
Coraline is along for the ride, with a nomination for Best Animated Film.
Robert Downey Jr. landed a slot for Best Actor – Comedy/Musical with Sherlock Holmes.
Brothers psycho Toby Maguire is nominated for Best Actor – Drama.
John Lithgow is nominated for Best Supporting Role inĀ Dexter, in what will hopefully be a walkaway win.
True Blood and Dexter are pitted against each other for Best TV – Drama, with Anna Paquin and Michael C. Hall earning respective nominations for Best Actress and Best Actor in a TV Drama.
The anticipated (after last week’s glowing press, anyway) Avatar is nominated for both Best Picture – Drama and Best Director. Eager to see reaction to Avatar landing in the Best Picture category.
The Golden Globes are awarded January 17, 2010. Read full nominees.
