Rob Zombie Setlist And Review – Hellbilly Deluxe 2 Tour

Rob Zombie - Hellbilly Deluxe 2 TourLast night, SCARS had the ass-kicking intelligence to head up to Boston’s House of Blues for the Hellbilly Deluxe 2 Tour, headlined by Rob Zombie and supported by Necromantix and (”straight from Halloween 2!”) Captain Clegg & the Night Creatures.

This was probably the fifth or sixth time I’ve seen Zombie, and can say (honestly, without fangirl blinders) that this is the best he’s sounded in a long time, and John 5 and Piggy D were also totally stellar. Having the billy bands on as openers seemed a smart move to me, because it made RZ sound even heavier by comparison and brought a different sort of energy, unlike when he’s brought out lesser metal bands as openers. Check out the Rob Zombie Boston setlist (and highlights) after the jump – it’s been pretty consistent each night of the tour.

Other highlights:

  • Zombie’s trademark sarcasm and “Oh, alright, I guess we might as well have a good time” style of stage banter.
  • Old-school tour props like the colossal robot.
  • Zombie’s advent of the all-female mosh pit.
  • No Sheri Moon on stage, but SCARS Alyson found her hanging in the Sound Pit all night.
  • Zombie taking it to the crowd, to walk through the perimeter of the bar and floor, ending the love-fest by saying, “There’s nothing like getting hit 500 times in the chest by a bunch of strangers.”
  • Regarding the crowd, it was probably what you would expect, but in typical Boston fashion it took a little while for people to wake up – once Zombie came on, the crowd was live. (Read: while most psychobilly fans are Rob Zombie fans, not all Rob Zombie fans are psychobilly fans.) NoiseCreep posted an article the other day with the Necromantix, who described the whole thing as a bunch of horror geeks.
