The weekend estimates are in from 2012, and if the numbers pan out as Variety reports, 2012 will have grossed the 9th biggest opening of all time. The projected gross is $220 million: a combination of $160 in foreign markets and $65 domestically.
Does global stress and misery make us all keen to watch mass destruction play out on screen? Or is it just our inherent desire to watch bad ass destruction? Are the women of the world still not over John Cusack? Has the world just upped its dose of crazy and made us all into doom-theory believers? Who knows, but I suddenly feel a lot less ashamed of my secret urges to watch the world end on screen.
