Cinema Wasteland’s Fall Expo screened Basement Jack last weekend, and the fans just loved it. In all honesty, Basement Jack makes Rob Zombie’s Michael Myers look like a pussy in comparison. This is what Halloween should have been. It’s an unrelentingly brutal viewing experience.
Piper Laurie looks like a soccer mom next to Jack Riley’s mother. When little Jack gets out of hand, she zaps him with electricity. She’s also nuttier than a squirrel turd as she has a bargain basement quack give Jack electro shock therapy and has sex in front of him.
Jack eventually kills Mom, then slaughters entire families, leaving them posed in gruesome positions that just accentuate the carnage. Jack is caught, but only gets a few years in the nuthouse. One of his victims, Karen, survived after her family was massacred and is now being stalked by Jack. Or is it the other way around?
I really don’t want to give too much away, as this is a must see. Director Michael Shelton really kicks ass here and scares the mortal shit out of the viewer. Eric Peter-Kaiser’s portrayal of Jack is creepy, cringe inducing, and completely evil. Michele Morrow is Laurie Strode with balls – she wants Jack dead so her nightmare will be over. Lynn Lowry gives a tour de force performance as Mama Riley, who will take her place at the top spot of Crazy Moms in horror films.
This is what a new version of Halloween should have been and Basement Jack is full of homages to that film. This is the film that would have kicked ass in the Grindhouses on “The Deuce.” This nasty little fucker should get a theatrical release and Michael Shelton is someone who should be watched, as he “gets it.” I give it the coveted 42P Seal of Approval.
