A teaser has been released for a new M. Night Shyamalan film, “The Last Airbender.” The movie’s plot is briefly described as: “The adventures of the successor to a long line of Avatars” (hmm…) ”who must put aside his irresponsible ways to save the world.”
MTV News cut to the plot’s point (an often confusing topic in Shyamalan movies) on a recent visit to set, elaborating:
“Airbender” is based on the hit Nickelodeon animated series. Set in a wholly imagined world, the film follows the Air, Water, Earth and Fire nations, each of which can manipulate one of the four elements. The Fire tribe — along with its Prince Zuko (Patel) — has been waging a century-long war against the other tribes, when a boy named Aang (12-year-old newcomer Noah Ringer) discovers he is the last person on the planet who has the power to control all four elements and thus bring about peace.
What’s intriguing here:
- It’s Shyamalan’s biggest budget film to date, starring Dev Patel who’s hot off the heels of “Slumdog Millionaire” insta-fame.
- The movie is set to be a trilogy – will he stick on for all three?
- Can M. Night reel in his own persona enough to take on a Nickeoloden-based adventure flick?
